Kozhikode previously known as Calicut is a famous destination for Tourists

Kozhikode was once undoubtedly one of the most important regions and the reasons for this are many. Although beauty is one of these reasons but in a state like Kerala beauty is common, so what made this district stand out? The first and foremost thing was that this was once the capital of the powerful Zamorins. The second reason was that it was a very prominent trade and commerce centre. Thus all these things contributed in making Calicut the most important region of Malabar in those days. Added to all this the beauty of Kozhikode resulting from the serene beaches, the historic sites, the rivers and the hills make this one of the most desirable place to be at.

If a list is made of all the places that could and should be visited on a trip to Kozhikode then one thing is for certain that the list is going to be quite long. The Pazhassiraja museum and art gallery which is at a distance of 5 kilometres from Kozhikode is a favourite among the excursionists. Over here one could see the copies of ancient murals, old coins, excavated earthenware, models of temples and megalithic monuments like dolmonoid cysts. The art gallery beside Pazhassiraja museum exhibits the famous paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. Some of main possessions of the late statesman V.K Krishna Menon have been put on display at Krishna Menon museum. The Kozhikode (Calicut) beach is a favourite destination for all who are entranced by the beauty of sunset. To add to that there are two crumbling piers and old lighthouse about hundred years old that run into the sea which take the natural beauty to an all new level.
