Ernakulam (Cochin), one of the most famous cities of Kerala

The commercial capital and the cosmopolitan capital city of Kerala is Kochi or Cochin in Ernakulam. Primarily because of its location it is also known as queen of the Arabian Sea, but this is not only because of its location; in addition to this it is also one of the finest natural harbours in the world. Since it was such an important trade centre of the world time and again efforts have been put in to make this place accessible by rail, road and air. To pursue this goal an international Airport has been made at about 20 kilometres from town at Nedumbassery. Ernakulam is a major station in southern railway and concomitantly an excellent road network has been laid around this place. Apart from this, ferry service is also quite popular in Cochin.

Another prime contribution of the Portuguese is the Dutch Palace built in 1557; it was gifted to Raja Veera Keral Varma of Kochi and was restored by the Dutch in the year of 1663. Over here one could give themselves a treat of the murals depicting scenes of the Hindu mythological epics Mahabharata and Ramayana.
